At the beginning of the year, I was tasked with creating sellband for Hilroy's wide range of journals and notebooks. A new style of packaging to the brand, we took the foundations from our Cambridge line of products, which have a more premium market position.
However Hilroy is positioned to be a more affordable product. This provided a challenge in maintaining a design that would not juxtapose the product it was paired with, while also elevating the selected products.

The Design went through many iterations, ranging from flat but colourful, intricate and patterned, as well as minimal yet elegant. Using a restrained touch of heat-pressed foil as an eye-catch we were able to achieve the intended results.
We ended up with a design that was affordable to produce, versatile in the items it could pair with without the need for redesigning or recolouring, and impactful on the shelf.
